    Professional Background & Interests

    Dr. Elsa Nelson is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in the department of Speech and Hearing Science at Portland State University. She received her doctorate in Clinical Audiology from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Elsa completed her undergraduate education at Westmont College with degrees in Chemistry and Communication Studies. Elsa worked at PSU as a Clinical Assistant Professor before moving to Bend, Oregon. She also worked at the Hearing Institute at the Artz Center where she served as Program Director for the audiology department. In addition to overseeing budgeting, marketing and program development, Elsa worked with both pediatric and adult populations in the clinic. Her areas of clinical expertise included diagnostic evaluations and aural (re)habilitation within both populations. Being involved in having an impact on children and adult’s quality of lives was particularly meaningful and rewarding work. At PSU, Elsa teaches undergraduate audiology courses and supervises graduate student hearing screenings.
