Competencies & Remediation Policy

Each graduate student in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences must achieve a level of mastery established by faculty for designated ASHA knowledge and skill standards.  Mastery is achieved when markers of competency are reached in related coursework and clinical activities. Attainment of competencies is recorded in CALIPSO online tracking system.

When a student does not successfully complete a clinic or demonstrates the need for more support in one or more aspects of their clinical work, a support plan is developed and carried out by the student and the support plan team. The support plan team typically consists of the Graduate Program Director, the Clinic Director, and the student.
