Meet This Year's Outdoor Retailer Student Delegates

Portland State University Student Delegation

This experiential learning partnership between the Portland State University School of Business Administration’s Athletic & Outdoor Industry Program, the Outdoor Industry Association and sponsoring brands: Columbia Sportswear, Gerber Gear, Hydro Flask, OIA and the Portland Development Commission provides students a unique opportunity to gain hands on experience at one of the largest annual industry trade shows. This year’s student delegation was selected by A&O Industry Leaders through a highly competitive process. The students will have the opportunity to work, learn, explore, and network with top industry leaders gaining valuable insights on current trends and issues facing the A&O Industry.

Edwin Martinez-Garcia

Major: Business - Marketing and Advertising

Edwin is a senior at Portland State University majoring in Business, Marketing & Advertising and is pursuing the Athletic & Outdoor Industry Certificate. His goal is to combine his passion for sports and the outdoors with a career in the Athletic & Outdoor Industry. Edwin is currently Co-President of A&O Connect, a student founded and led group that bridges the gap between industry professionals and students through education and networking events. As an Account Executive for FIR NW, a student-run advertising agency, Edwin led a campaign to generate awareness for Portland State Athletics. He is an active member of the School of Business Administration’s Dean’s Future Leaders group, with the goal of engaging the community through volunteer activities. Recently, Edwin coordinated a clothing drive for the homeless in his hometown of Southeast Portland. Edwin feels strongly that his education and experience at PSU have prepared him for a fulfilling career in the A&O Industry.

Edwin was a David Douglas Scotsman for the swim and water polo teams, and now referees Oregon high school water polo. In his free time, you can find him skiing, playing basketball, football, and soccer. Edwin is a self-proclaimed thrill seeker who has endured the Tough Mudder, bungee jumping and running of the bulls.

Edward “Ted” Quinn

Major: Business - Marketing

Ted is a senior at Portland State University majoring in Business, Marketing and is pursuing the Athletic & Outdoor Industry Certificate. He is the Recruitment Coordinator for A&O Connect, a student founded and led group that bridges the gap between industry professionals and students through education and networking events.

Ted also works as a peer advisor in the School of Business Administration Undergraduate Admissions & Advising office. While working in the Nike Employee Store product division he has realized his passion for product innovation. He plans to pursue a future career in product development and looks forward to exploring new processes and technologies in the A&O Industry. Ted is fascinated with end-user interaction and understands the importance of utilizing customer feedback to create effective products. He also believes that moving towards sustainable practices is crucial for the continued success of the A&O Industry.

Ted is a Portland native, who spent four years overseas in Indonesia with his family on assignment for Nike. He is also a champion athlete, who competed in cross-country, ski racing, and track & field. In his free time, you can find him running, skiing, or playing soccer.

Jessica Gebhardt

Major: Business – Marketing and Athletic & Outdoor Certificate

Jessica is a senior at Portland State University majoring in Business, Marketing and is pursuing the Athletic & Outdoor Industry Certificate. Jessica worked as a Marketing Operations Manager at the University of Oregon and oversaw the launch of a successful microbrewery. This experience, which connected her personal success to local businesses and the community in which she works and plays, created an ​eagerness to combine her sense of purpose in the local community with her lifelong love for athletics and the outdoors. Jessica currently works as a Merchandise Manager and Customer Service Representative at Zion, where she works closely with company buyers to select store merchandise.

Jessica grew up in San Ramon, California, where she developed a passion for athletics and the outdoors. Her early experiences ​playing competitive basketball and softball; coaching high school basketball; hiking and mountain biking in the Yosemite Valley; exploring the California coast; and traveling around the world have shaped her active lifestyle. In her free time, you can find her adventuring throughout the Pacific Northwest, travelling to foreign countries or climbing Half Dome.

Thomas Arm

Major: Master of Business Administration, Athletic & Outdoor Industry and  Intelligence & Data Analytics

Thomas is a US Army Veteran and a second year MBA student at Portland State University, who is pursuing the Athletic & Outdoor and Business Intelligence & Analytics Certificates. While pursuing his MBA, Thomas is working as a Corporate Strategy Manager for Right Weigh, Inc. where he works closely with product development teams and consumers to create go-to- market strategies for new products. He currently leads the corporate decision-making process, analyzes investment opportunities for new products, and develops business-to- business partnerships to integrate product line into third party systems. Prior to Right Weigh, Inc., Thomas worked as an Account Executive at Siemens, where he managed contract negotiations for executive accounts and successfully led the development and implementation of a pilot data analytics project. His leadership experience in the military has taught him the value of teamwork and has helped cultivate his unique perspective on problem solving and strategic planning. He is now focused on leveraging his work experience and passion for athletics and outdoors into a new career in the A&O Industry focused on strategy and innovation.

Thomas believes the A&O Industry brings people and communities together to enjoy the activities they love, by supplying the product and apparel needed to endure the elements. Thomas thoroughly enjoys the athletic and outdoor experiences the Pacific Northwest offers, and hopes to inspire others to explore, adventure, reach greater heights and become the best versions of themselves. Thomas grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts and enjoys doing crossfit, trail running, sailing, playing soccer, and exploring the great outdoors in his free time.
