Our current grad students have all rolled up their sleeves for the city of Portland and are actively at work on community-based research projects that engage with ways to improve the lives and economic well-being of their neighbors.

Portland State's actively researching faculty teach classes on a wide range of topics with specific emphases on issues related to social inequalities and injustices. 

Faculty members in sociology not only teach a variety of courses, but have active research agendas related to education, gender, health, labor, the environment, policing, transportation, immigration, and many other topics. Many faculty conduct research in partnership with community organizations, schools, state or city agencies, and hospitals or medical research centers.
