Eligibility for SHAC Services

Eligibility for SHAC Services

Student Health Fee

Any PSU student taking five (5) or more in-load, Non-Restricted Differential Tuition credit hours is assessed the PSU Student Health Fee per term. The Student Health Fee is a non-waivable fee and provides an eligible student access to SHAC medical, counseling, and dental* services. SHAC Testing Services are available to any PSU student regardless of credit hour enrollment.

*Any student taking one (1) or more credit hours is eligible to use SHAC Dental Services

Student Health Fee vs. Student Health Insurance Plan

The Student Health Fee and the Student Health Insurance Plan are two separate charges and are not mutually exclusive. AN ELIGIBLE STUDENT CAN ACCESS SHAC SERVICES REGARDLESS OF THEIR INSURANCE COVERAGE. SHAC services are funded by the Student Health Fee. However, there are some SHAC services not covered by the Student Health Fee. SHAC bills the student health insurance carrier for billable medical and mental health services. Students who waived the Student Health Insurance Plan will have billable services charged to their student account.

Duration of Eligibility

Since eligibility to use SHAC services is based of a student's per term enrollment, each term has a start date on which SHAC services are accessible, as well as an end date on which SHAC services are no longer available unless the student is enrolled in five (5) or more credit hours in the subsequent term. Below are the start and end dates for SHAC eligibility, listed by term.

SHAC Eligibility Start/End Date by Term

  • Fall: 9/26/16 - 1/8/17
  • Winter: 1/9/17 - 4/2/17
  • Spring: 4/3/17 - 9/19/17
  • Summer: 6/26/17- 9/22/17
    • Please Note: The summer term SHAC eligibility end-date does not coincide with the end-date of the Student Health Insurance Plan.  Click here to review the dates of coverage under the Student Health Insurance Plan.
