Portland State has been named one of the top 25 LGBTQ Friendly Colleges of 2019 by College Consensus, a company that aggregates college reviews throughout the United States and provides its own rankings.
“These are colleges and universities that have made a concerted effort to make their community a safe place for all students,” said Carole Baker, marketing director for College Consensus. “Students of the LGBTQ community often need additional support as statistics show many of them continue to face discrimination and hostility at home, school, the workplace, and broader society. Providing an educational environment that recognizes the particular challenges these students face is crucial to their long-term well-being.”
College Consensus noted PSU’s mission of promoting a respectful culture, its Queer Resource Center and Trans Student Resources and Retention Coordinator, all-gender bathrooms throughout campus and all-gender campus housing as factors in the ranking.
