Courtney Szocs joined the School of Business at Portland State University in the fall of 2015. Prior to entering academia, Courtney worked as a visual merchandiser for the Swedish retailer H&M. Additionally, Courtney has nearly ten years of experience working in the food and beverage industry.

At PSU, Courtney teaches Consumer Behavior and Marketing Management in the undergraduate program.

Courtney’s research focuses on sensory marketing and food marketing. She investigates how visual, haptic, auditory, olfactory, and gustatory factors in restaurants and retail environments influence consumers’ judgment and decisions. Courtney’s projects frequently involve partnering with restaurants, retail outlets, schools, and theme parks to understand how subtle changes in the ambience can impact consumers’ perceptions and consumption decisions. Her research has been published in the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Marketing Letters and Journal of the Association for Consumer Research.
