The Student Fee Committee (SFC) is seeking proposals for projects that will use fees collected directly from students to provide a benefit to students at Portland State University. Priority will be given to projects that provide a benefit to a broad range of students, offer a lasting impact, and require no ongoing financial support from the SFC. This year, the SFC has an interest in funding projects that will benefit accessibility and/or safety.

The SFC has up to $200,000 available to allocate to Student Building Fee projects in the 2019 calendar year.  Applications may be for any amount, including the full amount available. Requests may be to fund part of a project or an entire project. Actual award amounts may not equal the amounts requested and the SFC reserves the right not to award funds.

Student Building Fees can be used for projects that result in a new depreciable asset or an improvement/expansion to an existing asset such as:

  • Extending the life of the asset (e.g. new roof, upgraded HVAC)
  • Increasing the value of the asset (e.g. building new space)
  • Increasing the utility of the asset (e.g. converting the use of a space or adding audio/visual equipment)
  • Enhancing the security, function or appearance of a space (e.g. badge access, furniture or paint)
  • Supporting the university’s goals to be equitable, accessible and sustainable (e.g. projects that improve physical accessibility or decreases PSU’s environmental footprint).

Past projects have included:

  • Parkway North Renovation: $200,000
  • Classroom LED Project (Campus Wide): $155,000
  • 5th Avenue Cinema Renovation: $111,000
  • Student Activities and Leadership Programs Space Design Study: $65,000
  • Automatic Door Opener Project (Various Locations): $46,000
  • Student Legal Services Confidentiality Enhancements: $46,000
