Research and graduate student mentoring are fundamental to Portland State University's mission to "Let knowledge serve." Research and Graduate Studies' Excellence Awards recognize outstanding faculty contributions to these important endeavors.

Research and Mentoring Excellence Awards

Research & Graduate Studies accepts nominations annually for faculty excellence awards to acknowledge individuals engaged in outstanding research and graduate student mentoring at Portland State University. Award elegibility, nomination deadlines, and the nomination form will be available starting September 30, 2019. Section 1 of the Nomination Form must be completed and submitted by October 21, 2019. Completed nominations are due November 4, 2019.

Presidential Career Research Award

The Presidential Career Research Award is Portland State University’s most prestigious honor for career recognition of senior research faculty. Awardees are selected based on the career-long significance and quality of their research or creative achievements, as distinct from service or teaching, and as indicated by recognition from experts of national and international reputation. Those selected by the President for this honor receive an award and a $3,000 taxable honorarium. Nominate a colleague for the Presidential Career Research Award.

Graduate Mentoring Excellence Award

This award honors PSU faculty members who provide outstanding mentorship to graduate students and postdoctoral scholars engaged in research at Portland State. The award is intended for individuals who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to mentoring graduate research students and postdocs at PSU for 10 years or more. The recipient of this honor will receive an award and a $1,500 taxable honorarium. Early Career Research Award

PSU’s Early Career Research Award is given annually to a faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor who produces outstanding and original scholarship at an impressive rate while engaging PSU students in rigorous research activity. Those selected receive an award and a $1,500 taxable honorarium. Nominate a colleague for the Early Career Research Award.

Research Faculty Award for Non-tenure-track Faculty

This honor celebrates the outstanding contributions of a non-tenure-track faculty (NTTF) member engaged in research and scholarship of exceptional quality, volume, and impact. This award also recognizes the recipient’s extraordinary success engaging students in rigorous research and academic discourse. The recipient of this honor will receive an award and a $1,500 taxable honorarium. Nominate a colleague for the Research Faculty Award for Non-tenure-track Faculty.
