5 Maseeh College Students Honored with PSU Student Awards

Five Maseeh College students were honored at a special university-wide Student Award Ceremony on June 14 in Smith Memorial Student Union Ballroom.

Courtney Slavin (Civil and Environmental Engineering) received two awards. Courtney, who will graduate this summer with a Master of Science in Civil Engineering, won a President’s Award for Outstanding Community Engagement as well as the Maseeh College Master’s Commendation Award.

Tom Curtis (Computer Science) won a President’s Award for Outstanding University Service. Tom, who was also awarded 2012 Student Employee of the Year by both PSU and the State of Oregon this year, was recognized for developing an online orientation.

Nicole Zimmerman (Electrical and Computer Engineering) received a President’s Award for Outstanding University Service. Nicole, an undergraduate, holds officer positions in several engineering student organizations and also volunteers for MESA, the Oregon Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement.

Long Mai (Computer Science) won the Maseeh College undergraduate Commendation Award. For his undergraduate honor’s thesis, Long developed computer vision techniques to automatically detect photography composition rules applied in photos.

Nima Behkami (Engineering and Technology Management) was awarded the Maseeh College doctoral Commendation Award. Nima will study at Harvard in the fall on a post-doctoral fellowship with the National Library of Medicine.
