Faculty Registration Override FAQs

Faculty Registration Override allows faculty members to provide registration overrides for their students directly in Banweb. Instructors will be able to override pre-requisites, co-requisites, class/level/major restrictions, student attributes, departmental approval, and time conflicts during pre-term registration. Once the term begins, class capacity can also be overridden.

Certain schools and colleges, such as the School of Business and the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science, may not allow instructors to override particular restrictions, e.g. pre-requisite and college restrictions. Please check with your department for specific override protocol.

Can I delete an override once I have submitted it?

You cannot delete or remove an override via Banweb once it has been saved to the student's account. If you have submitted an override and need to delete it, please contact the Office of the Registrar for help.

Does submitting an override mean the student is now registered in my course?

No. After you have submitted an override, the student must then log in to their own Banweb account and register for the class.

Can I use a faculty registration override to sign in a student who is on the waitlist?

Before the term begins:

Course capacity overrides are not available before the start of the term, and therefore cannot be used to sign in students from the waitlist. If a student is on the waitlist, they must wait for a space to open up with the automated waitlist system.

After the term begins (weeks 1 & 2):

The ability to override course capacity begins at the start of the term. You will now be able to submit an Override All to allow the student to register for your closed or waitlisted class. Waitlisted students who receive a Faculty Override must register themselves in the course via Banweb. Under Add/Drop Courses, students must first drop from the waitlist by selecting "Drop Waitlist", then re-add the course by selecting "Reinstate Course" from the drop-down menu in the Action Field.

Who can use the Faculty Registration Override?

This functionality is available to any teaching faculty. You must be the primary instructor for the course in order to override a restriction for a student.

Do I have the authority to override all restrictions?

If you are the primary instructor for the course, you have the ability to override all restrictions. However, your academic department may have their own guidelines for authorizing overrides. Please contact your department before using the Faculty Registration Override for specific override protocol.
