73 years ago, on February 19, 1941, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 which gave the Secretary of War, and the Military the power to perform whatever action that was felt necessary to protect the west coast from Japanese attack. Fear and prejudice forced the Japanese and Japanese Americans to be removed from the west coast and incarcerated in centers throughout the interior of the United States.

On Febuary 23, 2014, the Portland JACL commemorates this shameful violation of civil rights that occured because of race and national origin.
