Alex Accetta

Alex leads a broad set of services that help promote a vibrant, healthy, and active campus life at Portland State. His portfolio of responsibilities includes Campus Rec, Smith Memorial Student Union, Conference and Event Services, and Retail Services. 

Alex grew up in Durango, Colorado. Before coming to Portland State he worked at Willamette University, Fort Lewis College and Marist University. Alex has been married for over twenty years to his wife Hanisi, and has two children, Kendall and Sebastian. Alex was a competitive runner but now spends a lot of time biking and playing soccer. He has served as the President of the Board for Adaptive Sports Northwest and as an at-large board member for NIRSA-Leaders in Collegiate Recreation. Alex has spent over 10 years volunteer coaching youth soccer and baseball. Alex received a BA in Political Science and an MA in Education Administration and Policy Analysis from Stanford University and then received his EdD degree from Portland State. His dissertation focused on students' development of their global-self through sports.
