About

Michael Wright is an international affairs scholar, who pursues an explicitly multidisciplinary teaching and learning agenda. His interest include international security and development, the European Union (including enlargement and “Brexit”), migration, the politics of Turkey and the broader Middle East, and digital globalization.

His dissertation research was on the politics of the EU and Turkey, specifically investigating member state policies regarding the Turkish accession process. He earned his PhD in International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA) and a graduate certificate in West European Studies from Pitt's European Union Center of Excellence (EUCE). He earned his M.A. in Political Science from Leiden University in the Netherlands.

Dr. Wright is a dual citizen of both the United States and the Netherlands. He grew up both below sea level (Netherlands) and mile-high (Colorado). He is married to a Portland-area librarian, rides an old motorcycle, and has a cat who is the reincarnation of Louis XIV.
