While the name on the door may be different, the high quality accounting services at well-known firm Kieckhafer Schiffer & Co (KS&Co) still remain the same. As does the KS&Co connection to PSU’s School of Business, where many accounting alumni have found career growth opportunities, internships, and employment with the firm.

In 2017, the two original founding partners of KS&Co decided to transition out of the firm, instituting a rebranding and a name change. That name change was formalized between December 2017 and January 2018. KS&CO is now KBF CPAs LLP (KBF), continuing to operate with 13 partners working from four offices up and down the West Coast.

Greg Fletcher, Accounting ‘97, is one of those thirteen, as he holds the role of partner at the newly re-christened KBF. Greg operates out of the Portland office, leading the firm’s audit practice and consulting on numerous technical accounting areas.

Greg started at KS&CO in 2005, making for almost 13 years and counting with the same firm. In that time, Greg has remained connected to his Portland State alma mater.

“Of the 40+ people in the Portland and Seattle offices at KBF, seven are PSU graduates. Additionally, we currently have two tax interns from The School of Business working during the tax busy  season right now. We also have two more PSU students starting audit internships this summer,” said Greg.

KBF uses both audit and tax interns during certain times of the year, and many of the seven current PSU grads at the firm were once interns hired for full-time employment upon graduation. And while employing local talent helps KBF stand out amongst the competition, that is not the only compelling aspect of the firm.

“Client service and responsiveness has been a key driver for our business model since Peter Buss and I opened the Portland office. Every client has our cell phone number and we encourage them to call us day or night if they have questions or need consultation right away,” said Greg.

Additionally, KBF operates on a 75% tax, 25% audit model that sets them apart from other local firms. They have established expertise in certain key areas such as Expatriate Tax Services and ASC 740 Income Tax Provision Services. On the audit side, they have a strong emphasis on serving early stage and venture-backed technology companies.

Tax internship candidates seeking firms or businesses should keep an eye out for summer internship opportunities available at KBF.
