Lincoln Hall 225

In preparation for Portland Opera’s performances of "An American Quartet” (Menotti’s The Telephone, Barber’s A Hand of Bridge, Moore’s Gallantry, and Hoiby’s Bon Appétit!), we will look at the growth of American opera from the 1930s to the 1960s, including works by Copland, Thompson, Weill, and Bernstein.  This was the first “golden age” of American opera.

The PSU School of Music and Theater presents Carl Halvorson in a series of lectures designed to engage those who are curious about opera and want to learn more, as well as passionate opera lovers. We will explore the rich history of the art form. The series features plenty of music spanning over 500 years, including definitive recordings and live performances by PSU students, faculty and guest artists. Each session will offer background and insight on current local presentations and productions. Free and open to the public.
