Meet Interim President Stephen Percy

Photo of Acting President Steve PercyStephen Percy, currently dean of the College of Urban & Public Affairs and a professor of political science, will serve as interim president until the Board of Trustees selects a permanent leader. Percy, 66, has led the College of Urban & Public Affairs since he joined PSU in 2014, coming to Portland from the University of Baltimore, where he was founding dean of the College of Public Affairs and a professor of public and international affairs.

The co-author of six books and one textbook, Percy has also served as an administrator and faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Virginia. He earned his bachelor’s degree in government from Hamilton College and his Ph.D. in political science from Indiana University.

At Portland State, Percy headed the campus-wide strategic planning effort that resulted in priorities and goals for PSU from 2016-2020. As a dean, Percy has worked to expand academic programs and student enrollment and advanced a diverse set of centers and institutes that promote civic engagement, support community problem solving, and advance community and regional planning, The College of Urban and Public Affairs includes the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government, the Nohad A. Toulan School of Urban Studies and Urban Planning, and the Departments of Economics and International & Global Affairs.
