Profile: Meet Risa S. Proehl
Risa Proehl helps communities demonstrate their needs for special programs.
Risa S. Proehl, Demographic Analyst, has been a research faculty member with Portland State University’s Population Research Center (PRC) since 1998. She manages the Oregon Population Estimates Program and is responsible for preparing the Annual Certified Population Estimates for the State of Oregon and its counties and cities.
Proehl is Oregon's representative to the Federal-State Cooperative Program for Population Estimates (FSCPE), which is an organization of U.S. Census Bureau staff
and state representatives who work together for the improvement and advancement
of methodologies for sub-national population estimates.
Additionally, Proehl is experienced in developing community assessments for educational and affordable housing needs, developing coordinated forecasts, enrollment forecasting for school districts, and preparing affordable housing market analyses. Her research interests include helping communities to demonstrate their needs for grants and special programs. Her community partners include non-profit organizations and government agencies including Portland YouthBuilders, Head Start programs in Multnomah County, Boys and Girls Club of Portland, Fair Housing Council of Oregon, Oregon Department of Education, Multnomah County Health Department, Oregon Department of Transportation, affordable housing developers, and numerous city and county jurisdictions throughout Oregon.
