Contingent + Tactical Urbanism: When Tactics Become the Strategy
Thursday, February 6, 2014 - 5:00pm

Join the School of Architecture for a gallery reception on Thursday, Feb. 6, 5-6 p.m. at Shattuck Hall.

The last 5 years have seen an explosion of temporary design action within our cities. This “movement,” while loose & poorly connected, has influenced our civic culture at a time when commercial & municipal investment has declined. Some see this movement as a response to shifting economic concerns, but perhaps it’s born out of an increasing desire to take part in our cities. Citizens are no longer willing to be passive residents & instead have evolved into active designers of their urban space.

This exhibit illuminates how ordinary people are engaged in making place. Examples were collected by Trevor Dykstra, Coop 15 Architecture and architecture students of Portland State University, including a few of their own design proposals under the direction of Asst. Professor B.D. Wortham-Galvin.

Exhibition dates:
Jan 21 - Feb 21, 2014
Gallery Reception: Thursday, February 6, 5-6:00 p.m.
Where: PSU School of Architecture, Shattuck Hall (1914 SW Park Avenue)
