Portland Tribune: PSU hosts arbor month activity day

April is Arbor Month, and Portland State University has invited an arborist and an author to Portland for a book signing, film viewing and tree planting.

PSU has scheduled the event for April 19. The activities are sponsored by the Westside Portland Tree Guild, the PSU Campus Sustainability Office and Portland Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry. Meet at Hoffman Hall 1833 S.W. 11th Ave. to participate. Here's the itinerary:

At 9:30 a.m., registration and book signing by Phyllis Reynolds, author of “Trees of Greater Portland.”

At 10 a.m., Phyllis Reynolds will guide a walking tour of downtown Heritage Trees.

At 12:30 p.m., Plant a street tree in front of Lincoln Hall’s new entry at Southwest Broadway and Southwest Market Street. Meet at Hoffman Hall to walk over together.

At 5 p.m., Brian French, certified arborist and founder of Ascending the Giants, will discuss his work climbing and documenting the largest trees in the world.

At 6 p.m.,“Treeverse,” an award-winning documentary, will be shown with a Q&A from Brian French afterward. Doors open at 5:45 p.m.
