How do I view Google Analytics information for my Enterprise site?

Request access to PSU's Google Analytics report

Email ucomm-support@pdx.edu with the following information:

  1. The fact that you'd like access to the Google Analytics reports.
  2. The e-mail address of the person that need access. We recommend pdx.edu addresses.

When you get Google Analytics access, you will get access for pdx.edu as a whole; the access will not be specific to your site. As such, you will need to filter the content to only see information for your site. Use the resources on the page to learn how to filter your Google Analytics content.

Login to Google Analytics

  1. Navigate to Google Analytics
  2. Login using your Odin username and password.

Using Segments to Filter Data

The easiest way to filter Google Analytics content is by using segments. This creates a specific filter which can be called up on almost any page in Google Analytics. Segments do not apply to real-time data, though, so to view real-time data you will have to use a Dashboard.

Build a New Segment

Follow the instructions on Google's Building Segments FAQ to learn how to build a segment.

Use the following filter to build a segment specific to your site:

  1. Select the "Conditions" category.
  2. Choose "Page" from the list of available conditions.
  3. Enter your site's URI into the text box. For example, if you are in the Undergraduate Admissions department, your URI would be /undergraduate-admissions/
  4. Once your segment is created, you can apply it to various parts of Google Analytics. Use Google's FAQ on Applying Segments for more information on that process.

Example Filter:

Choose conditions, then page, and in the text box enter your site's URI

Reporting Tools

Dashboards are essentially one-stop-shops to view a variety of metrics related to your site and its users. They are highly customizable, and you are able to create multiple dashboards which allows you to give a different focus to each one.

For support on dashboards, visit Google's Analytics support for dashboards.

Sample Dashboards

Creating a dashboard from scratch can be a daunting task. As such, I've created some sample dashboards you're welcome to use. Make sure you're logged into Google Analytics, then click on each of the links below to add these dashboards to your account.

Analytics Dashboard: Facts About Visitors

  • This dashboard can be filtered using segments. There is no need to manually adjust any widgets.

Analytics Dashboard: Facts About Site

  • For this dashboard, you will have to manually update the "Pages with the Longest Load Times" widget.

Analytics Dashboard: Realtime Overview

  • You will need to manually adjust every widget in this dashboard as realtime metrics are not affected by widgets.

Page Analytics

Now that you have Google Analytics access, you also have access to Page Analytics. This is a Chrome extension that you can activate on any page within the PSU Enterprise.

One feature of Page Analytics is that it will tell you which links on a page are the most popular. Please keep in mind, though, that it can only provide this data for links that go to other pdx.edu sites; external links are not monitored.
