Get the most out of Windows 10 with these helpful tips and tricks.

Basic Actions

Signing Out

  1. Click the Windows Start icon.
  2. In the Start menu, click the profile icon.
  3. Click Sign out.

Locking Your Computer

  • Press Windows Key+L.

Shutting Down

  1. Click the Windows Start icon.
  2. Click the Power icon in the lower left of the menu.
  3. Click Shut down.

Finding the Control Panel

  1. Click within the Windows search bar, or click the Windows Start icon.
  2. Type control panel to bring up a list of search results.
  3. Click Control Panel.

Finding the H and I Drives

  1. In File Explorer, locate the H and I drives under the This PC heading.
  2. If the H and I drives do not appear under This PC, follow the instructions in the Using H & I Drives for Windows article to map your drives.

Finding Installed Printers

  1. Click within the Windows search bar, or click the Windows Start icon.
  2. Type printers to bring up a list of search results.
  3. Click Devices and Printers.

Customizing Windows 10

Adding Desktop Shortcuts to Your Taskbar

  1. Right-click the appropriate shortcut on your desktop, then click Pin to taskbar.
  2. Optionally, you can now safely remove the icon from your desktop.

Pinning Folders to Quick Access

You can use the Quick Access section in the Windows File Explorer to pin your favorite folders. Follow these steps to to do so:

  1. In the File Explorer, right-click the desired folder.
  2. Click Pin to Quick Access.

Pinning Web Shortcuts to the Taskbar

If you are using Google Chrome, you can save any webpage as an application. This allows you to save the webpage on your desktop or taskbar so that you can launch it easily in the future.

Note: This functionality is not available in Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge.

Adding the Web Page to Your Desktop

  1. In Google Chrome, navigate to the website you want to save.
  2. Open the Chrome menu by clicking the menu icon.
    The Google Chrome menu icon is a vertical series of three grey dots. When clicked, it will open the menu.
  3. Click More tools, then click Add to desktop....
  4. Name the shortcut.
  5. Optionally, if you want the webpage to open in its own window when launched, select the Open as window checkbox.

Adding Applications or Folders to the Tile Pane

  1. Right-click the application or folder you want to add to the Start menu.
  2. Click Pin to Start.

Removing Tiles

  1. Right-click the tile you want to remove.
  2. Click Unpin from Start.
