Microsoft Office 365

Office 365 for Education

Microsoft's Office 365 for Education is a new service that Microsoft has begun rolling out for eligible students of higher education institutions that provides a free subscription to Office 365. Portland State is currently working with Microsoft to assess whether the University can participate in this program and how best to offer the Office suite to PSU students. At this time, students cannot currently sign up for this service with their @pdx.edu email accounts.

PSU Google Apps

PSU students continue to have full access to PSU Google Apps, which feature numerous productivity apps, including:

  • Docs: A word processing platform similar to Word, can save files in Word (.docx) format.
  • Spreadsheets: A spreadsheet app similar to Excel, can save files in Excel (.xlsx) format.
  • Presentations: A presentation tool similar to PowerPoint, can save files in PowerPoint (.pptx) format.

All data stored in PSU Google Apps is protected under PSU's contract with Google Apps for Education. At this time, PSU and Microsoft do not have a similar contract to protect data stored in Microsoft's cloud storage.
