Financial Aid & Scholarships

*The application period for FAFSA and PSU Scholarships begins on October 1 of each year.*

Please also be aware of the following important deadlines:

  • January 15 – Submit your Free Application for Student Aid to be eligible for federal, state and institutional aid (this is a recommended date for submission, not a deadline)
  • February 1 – Submit your completed Online Scholarship Application to be considered for PSU General University Scholarships. The application opens on October 1.

The Diversity Scholarship Program and the President’s Equal Access Scholarship are awarded to outstanding students from diverse backgrounds who are traditionally underrepresented in higher education. You can apply through the scholarship portal starting October 1.

Funding Opportunities

  • Earn a Graduate Assistantship and work your way through graduate school while receiving tuition remission. Be sure to contact your graduate program for information on any Graduate Assistantships offered through your department.
  • Portland State also offers on-campus employment opportunities on the University’s internal job postings site.

Special Funding

Helpful Links

  • Residents of Western states may be eligible for in-state tuition if applying to qualifying programs. Please review our WICHE/WRGP page for more information.
  • Students who have encountered an unexpected financial hardship may qualify for tuition assistance from the Graduate Retention and Completion Fund. Please review the criteria for these funds and contact your adviser about a possible nomination.
