Shelby Anderson, Anthropology faculty, was awarded a three-year, $153,000 grant from the National Park Service to undertake research on pre-19th century cultural interaction across the Beringian region of northern Alaska and Russia. The international research team will study the movement of archaeological pottery across the region to address questions about the geography of past Beringian interaction networks and how they change over time. The project builds on Anderson’s prior research and will yield new information about the role of past cultural exchange in the development of Ancestral Iῆupiat cultures.
