Portland State University’s Biology Investigations and Outreach (BIO) team is returning this year with their previously standing-room only celebration of one of the world’s greatest scientists – Charles Darwin!

February 12, 2014 not only marks the 205th birthday of the famed author of On the Origin of Species, but also the 19th annual global festival of International Darwin Day. The International Darwin Day Foundation coordinates the worldwide celebration each year, from LA to Charleston, Costa Rica to Warsaw, and Portland State University will be joining in too!

Hosted by BIO, renowned evolutionary biologist and behavioral ecologist Dr. Patricia Brennan will be presenting at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12th at Smith Memorial Student Union Room 355. As an adjunct research assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Dr. Brennan is fascinated by the evolutionary consequences of interactions between behavior, morphology, and the environment. Dr. Brennan's presentation will focus on the imperative of funding and conducting scientific research entitled Oddball Science: Why studies of weird evolutionary phenomena are crucial, and will be followed by a Q&A session.
