PSU’s Annual Food Industry Leadership Center Event, Oct. 16-17

Mike Jackson, president and CEO of SuperValu, will deliver the keynote address at the Food Industry Leadership Center’s (FILC) Executive Forum awards dinner, October 16 at 6 p.m.

The Food Industry Leadership Center’s Executive Forum 2006 convenes industry leaders and experts from a myriad of fields to share knowledge critical to operating a business in the 21st century. The Forum is geared to a broad range of professionals in the food and consumer products industry.

Supermarket News will present two awards during the FILC Executive Forum 2006: the National Retail Excellence Award and the Whole Health Enterprise Award.

Tickets for the Executive Forum 2006 Conference (October 16-17, 2006) are $295, and include the awards dinner and silent auction with keynote speaker Mike Jackson on October 16. Tickets for the Women’s Leadership Forum, Monday, October 16, are $65 with Executive Forum tickets, and $95 without. About Keynote Speaker Mike Jackson
Named president and chief operating officer of SuperValu in 2005, Mike Jackson has held a number of positions throughout his 26-year tenure at the company in both supply chain services and retail operations. Jackson served as senior vice president of operations for Retail Food Companies from 1999 to 2001, and was subsequently named executive vice president and president of Distribution Food Companies in 2001. Within the industry, Jackson serves on the Food Marketing Institute’s (FMI) wholesale advisory board, the National Grocers Association (NGA) executive committee – board of directors, and the IGA USA board of directors. Jackson holds a bachelor’s degree in management and accounting from the University of Wisconsin. He has also completed the Wharton School executive management program at the University of Pennsylvania.

Bill Shaner, President and CEO, Save-A-Lot
Bill Shaner was named president and chief executive officer of Save-A-Lot in May 2006. As CEO, Shaner leads a highly successful food retailing enterprise with over 1,150 stores nationwide and has over 25 years in the retail industry. Shaner is also a senior vice president of Save-A-Lot parent company SuperValu.

Rachel Kenyon, Vice President for Marketing, Weyerhaeuser CBPR
Kenyon joined Weyerhaeuser as CBPR marketing communications manager in 1998 and was named director of marketing in 2003. She assumed her current role in 2006. She began her career in 1991 working in both print and broadcast journalism prior to joining the Fibre Box Association in 1994.

Art Turock, President, Turock & Associates
Art Turock is a sales growth strategist who empowers food retailers and consumer products manufacturers with innovative strategic moves to achieve sustainable sales growth. In the 1980s he ran a corporate wellness firm. Turock is also the author of the book Getting Physical: How to Stick With Your Exercise Program.

John F. Haugen, Vice President, Health and Wellness Center of Excellence, General Mills
John Haugen coordinates key health initiatives across the organization that can create meaningful benefits to consumers and energize core businesses at General Mills. Haugen joined General Mills in 1990 and has held numerous marketing positions with the company, including Snacks Unlimited and Betty Crocker Products.

Trends in Health and Healthy Lifestyles Panel
Kevin Coupe, founder, serves as moderator for a panel discussion with Schuyler Lininger, CEO, Healthnotes, and Laurie Demeritt, president and COO, The Hartman Group, that will examine the impact of the growing emphasis on health and healthy lifestyles.

Healthy Lifestyle Go-To-Market Strategies Panel
David Orgel, Supermarket News editor in chief moderates a panel discussion with Dennis BelCastro, vice president for Customer Development, Kraft Foods, Matt Kistler, director of private brands for SAM’S Club, Todd Hale, vice president, ACNielsen, and Bob Vosburgh, editor, Supermarket News Whole Health, will focus on the effects of branding upon the retail food, beverage and consumer package goods industries and its impact on promoting health and a healthy lifestyle.

The Next Generation Leadership Panel
Moderated by Kevin Coupe, the panel will feature industry executives talking to students about career opportunities and leadership roles in the retail industry.

Women’s Leadership Forum, Monday, October 16, 11:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
This session, which includes lunch, discussion panels, and a networking session, offers Northwest companies an opportunity to help support the development of female executives in the retail, food, beverage and consumer products industry. This annual event brings men and women together to gain insights into the issues surrounding the advancement of women. This year’s program will enable leaders from across the industry and management at all levels to network while learning, and will address trends related to diversity, leadership, and business development.
