Portland State University Crew had an incredibly successful spring season which culminated with them competing at Nationals in Gainesville, GA.  Before Nationals, the club competed in the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships on April 26th and 27th in Sacramento, CA. At WIRAs, the Women took second in their Petite Final and the Men placed second in their prelims, setting them up to make an impressive showing in the Grand Final. After WIRAs, their coach Kevin Goodenough told them: “You can’t always fight the fights you know you can win, sometimes you have to fight the fights worth fighting.” Many of their key athletes from last year graduated and the clubs numbers dwindled significantly, but PSU Crew decided this was still a fight worth fighting.

Last year was PSU Crew’s first appearance at the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) National Championships and it was definitely a learning experience for them all, with both women’s boats placing 4th, just outside of the medals. This year at Nationals, all crews made it to the Grand Finals of their event, with the Men's Pair finishing seventh overall, the Women's Pair finishing fifth overall with a time ten seconds faster than their previous personal best and the Women's Double took home gold. We are very proud of Crew this year and their awesome accomplishments. We look forward to seeing what's in store for next year.
