The Northwest and California Affiliates of the World History Association are continuing to accept registrations for their inaugural Joint Conference, to be held October 12-13 at Portland State University in downtown Portland, Oregon.

This year's conference features many exciting aspects. The venue offers numerous microbreweries, world class restaurants, the Japanese Garden, Lansu Classical Chinese Garden, and Powell's Bookstore. Portland is within driving distance of Willamette Valley wineries, the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, Mt. Hood, and Oregon's Pacific Coast.

A reception will be held for presenters and attendees in the late afternoon of October 12th, followed by our keynote address by Dr. Anthony Penna, Professor (Emeritus) at Carnegie-Mellon University and former Provost of Academic Affairs at Northeastern University. Dr. Penna, author of The Human Footprint: A Global Environmental History (2010), Remaking Boston: An Environmental History of the City and Its Surroundings (2009), and Nature's Bounty: Historical and Modern Environmental Perspectives (1999), is a noted scholar of both American and environmental history.

For K-12 Educators, we are offering a Teacher Workshop on October 12th, featuring leading scholars of world history presenting on teaching world history in the K-12 environment. This Workshop is eligible for Washington State and Oregon in-service hours, features an optional catered lunch, and will have a selection of free books available. Entrance to the reception and keynote presentation on October 12th and the conference on October 13th is included.
