Coordinator's Corner

We are well in to the 2012-2013 academic year! Our Native American and Alaskan Native student population has reached a milestone of 566 students enrolled at PSU. Over 40 tribes from throughout the U.S. and Canada are represented. Concluding Fall term 2012, the Native American Student Services Program (NASS) witnessed an influx of newly enrolled students to PSU.  Welcome!

If you are unfamiliar with NASS or the Native American Student and Community Center (NASCC), we encourage you to stop by for a visit. The NASCC hosts a number of upcoming events and ongoing activities throughout the year. Please check out the NASCC at . Additionally the NASCC is home to our Native American Student organizations, United Indian Students in Higher Education, the American Indian Science and Engineers Society Chapter and the Pacific Islanders Club. Class schedules permitting, check out meeting times for these organizations. All are welcome.

NASCC houses my office as well as many of the Indigenous Nations Studies classes. The NASS provides limited academic advising, liaison with tribal education offices, assistance with scholarship and career searches, referrals to community resources as well as emergency assistance as needed. Additionally the NASS oversees the Healing Feathers Project, which is a suicide prevention awareness and wellness undertaking.  We are always in need of volunteers! Check out

The 2013 year promises to be an exciting year! The Diversity Multicultural Student Services has new executive director, the NASCC has a new Native American Programs coordinator and new events are being planned for the NASS and NASCC. We hope your Winter and Spring terms 2013 are productive and enjoyable. Come visit us at the NASCC. We look forward to meeting you!
