George Beard is a 1980 MPA graduate of Portland State University and long-time adjunct faculty member in the program. His professional interests focus on public sector innovation, performance improvement, and development of next-generation leaders. He currently manages The Oregon Fellowship Program and is responsible for business development for Executive Leadership Institute.

During his 30-year career, he has split his time between the public and private sectors, much of it involving the deployment of technology and pursuit of innovation. Mr. Beard has worked for several technology and software firms (Unisys, Oracle, Retek) in a variety of roles (global alliance management, global account management, corporate communications, business development, and consulting). He also has nearly 15 years of public sector experience including stints with the U.S. Department of Justice, Bonneville Power Administration, State of Oregon, Multnomah County, and Santa Barbara County.

Mr. Beard serves as a Senior Fellow at the Center for Digital Government and as a board member of the La Salle Foundation. He has earned degrees from Michigan State University (B.A.), the State University of New York at Albany (M.S.), and Portland State University (M.P.A.).
