Darrell Grant, Music + Theater faculty, is partnering with Third Angle New Music, which has received a $90,000 grant to produce his contemporary chamber opera, “Sanctuaries.” The opera is set to the rhythms of jazz and slam poetry and explores gentrification and the displacement of residents of color in Portland’s historically African-American Albina district. The project will premiere in spring 2020. Third Angle New Music is one of 10 organizations to receive a grant in 2018 from the Creative Heights Initiative of The Oregon Community Foundation.
