Portland State Opera presents two one-act operas in one delightful evening! In Italian with English supertitles.

About the Production

Suor Angelica

To hide a scandal, Angelica’s wealthy family took away her infant son and forced her to enter a convent.  Seven years later, Sister Angelica still dreams of her child. When a visiting aunt reveals that the beloved son has been dead for years, the distraught Angelica makes a fatal decision.

Gianni Schicchi

Buoso Donati has died, and his relatives are horrified: he’s left all his money to a monastery. The family turns to the cunning Gianni Schicchi to alter Buoso’s will. Gianni cooks up a brilliant scheme, but the greedy family is in for the shock of their lives! This rollicking comedy features one of the best-known arias in opera, “O mio babbino caro.”

Pre-performance Opera Talks

Enrich your experience of the show at a free talk before the performance! Suzanne Nance of All Classical Portland (KQAC 89.9 FM) and music historian Bob Kingston offer historical context and insights into Puccini's creative process.

Each talk begins an hour before the performance and lasts for 30 minutes--so you'll have plenty of time to find your seat!

These talks are sponsored by the PSU Speaker's Board. Suzanne Nance appears courtesy of All Classical Portland.
