CANCELED - Opera Appreciation with Carl Halvorson

Lincoln Hall 225
Free and open to the public

In light of concerns regarding COVID-19 and in accordance with the university's recommendations to limit in-person gatherings, we are regretfully canceling this event. The health and safety of our community is important to us, and we appreciate your understanding and support.

The great post-Romantic operatic tradition known as "verismo" will be our subject. Puccini, Leoncavallo, Giordano, Mascagni, and others wrote a number of verismo works that are still among the most popular operas today. We will also explore the style of verismo singing. Portland Opera will be presenting "Pagliacci" by Leoncavallo in June.

The PSU School of Music and Theater presents Carl Halvorson in a series of lectures designed to engage those who are curious about opera and want to learn more, as well as passionate opera lovers. We will explore the rich history of the art form. The series features plenty of music spanning over 500 years, including definitive recordings and live performances by PSU students, faculty and guest artists. Each session will offer background and insight on current local presentations and productions. Free and open to the public.
