For well over a decade, Don Byron has been a singular voice in an astounding range of musical contexts, exploring widely divergent traditions while continually striving for what he calls "a sound above genre." As a clarinetist, saxophonist, composer, arranger, and social critic, he redefines every genre of music he plays, be it classical, salsa, hip-hop, funk, rhythm & blues, klezmer, or any jazz style from swing and bop to cutting-edge downtown improvisation. He has been consistently voted best clarinetist by critics and readers alike in leading international music journals since being named "Jazz Artist of the Year" by DownBeat in 1992. Acclaimed as much for his restless creativity as for his unsurpassed virtuosity as a player, Byron has presented a multitude of projects at major music festivals around the world, including recent performances in Vienna, San Francisco, Hong Kong, London, Monterey, New Zealand, and on New York's Broadway.

PSU Jazz Virtual Series: Dontae Winslow
Dontae Winslow was trained in music at the formidable Baltimore School for the arts high school. In four years, he attained a Bachelors's and Masters's degree in Classical Music Performance from the Peabody Conservatory of John's Hopkins University. He also completed studies at USC under film composer Terence Blanchard, pianist Herbie Hancock, string arranger Jeremy Lubbock, and trumpeter Gary Grant at the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz on a fellowship. He has collaborated with music that spans every genre in the American musical landscape from Pop, Country, Blues, and Jazz, to Hip-hop, Soul, and Gospel records.
Overcoming a tough family background with perseverance and resilience Dontae is a survivor of child abuse and a parent suffering drug abuse. He speaks openly about healing and thriving through such debilitating obstacles that face many of our youth. A consummate motivator Dontae speaks with heart and authenticity which comes easily because he lives with gratitude, optimism, and great compassion. Dontae Has Scored Robert Townsend's "In The Hive", HBO's Baltimore Baltimore Rising ~ a documentary about the death of unarmed Freddie Gray, and BET's "The New Edition Story Biopic.
Dontae has toured/Performed/recorded with: Justin Timberlake, Chris Stapleton, Alicia Keys, Lady A, Jay-Z, Queen Latifah, Garth Brooks, Kelsea Ballerini, Kamasi Washington, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Jill Scott, Common, Neyo, D’Angelo, Christina Aguilera, Lauryn Hill, and Snoop Dogg. He designed his own custom trumpet the “Winslowdynasty Model” by Adams Instruments and was featured on their international Magazine cover. He has the horn with the famous Red Bell. You can see him performing on the NETFLIX special Justin Timberlake and the Tennessee Kids. Recently He has arranged horns and performed in two Superbowl Half-Time Shows, JLO & Shakira 2020 and Justin Timberlake 2018. Dontae also arranged the score for Eminem’s 92nd Oscar Awards Performance of the Academy award-winning song “Loose Yourself”, and conducted and arranged “Moonlight Sonata” at the late Kobe Bryant's Memorial with Alicia Keys on piano. He also arranged and co-wrote Erica Campbells “Praying & Believing”. In 2021 Dontae arranged string orchestra for the new hit single by Pop Band WHY DON’T WE entitled “Grey.”
In 2021 Dontae releases the highly anticipated album entitled “Walking Art” featuring Black Music Luminaries such as Branford Marsalis, Terrace Martin, Queen Shic, Kamasi Washington, Kenyon Dixon, Raheem Devaugn, and Gary Thomas. In addition, Dontae is a jazz improvisation, music production, film composing and performance clinician for such esteemed institutions as The Berklee School of Music, The Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, The Los Angeles Unified School District, and The Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University.

PSU Jazz Virtual Series: Andy Milne
A fearless, versatile explorer, Juno award-winning pianist/composer Andy Milne has been a distinct and respected voice at the heart of New York’s creative jazz scene for over 25 years, collaborating with dancers, visual artists, poets and musicians spanning jazz, classical, pop, folk, and world music. At the piano, he skillfully blends poetic gravitas with a playful sense of order.
He has recorded and toured throughout the world with Ravi Coltrane, Ralph Alessi, Carlos Ward and Carla Cook, and has collaborated with a range of artists including Andrew Cyrille, Sekou Sundiata, Avery Brooks, Bruce Cockburn, Fred Hersch, Ben Monder, Dianne Reeves, Jen Shyu, Tyshawn Sorey and Jamie Baum. A former student of Oscar Peterson, Milne was at the center of the M-BASE Collective as a core member of saxophonist Steve Coleman’s bands, as well as performing with Cassandra Wilson and Greg Osby. Milne composed and produced the scores for seven documentary films by acclaimed director William Shatner and has released ten recordings as a leader or co-leader.
He is the recipient of numerous awards and commissions, including the prestigious Civitella Fellowship. In addition to his multiple projects, Milne is a sought-after educator, serving as an assistant professor of music at The University of Michigan. and the Assistant-Director at The School for Improvisational Music. Milne draws inspiration from politics, philosophy, homeopathy, comedy, and science fiction, with musical influences that bridge Thelonious Monk, Art Tatum, Herbie Nichols, Bela Bartok, Joni Mitchell and Stevie Wonder.

Violin Masterclass with Louisiana State University Prof. Lin He
Violinist Lin He made his Carnegie Hall solo debut in November 2014, after a performance there earlier that year with principal players from the Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic and Philadelphia Orchestra in orchestral setting. Over the past seasons, he performed the Bruch Scottish Fantasy with the Sonoma County Philharmonic, Korngold Concerto with the Rapides Symphony Orchestra, Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Shippensburg Symphony and the Sibelius Concerto with the Lake Charles Symphony.
Inspired by the Complete Sonatas by Beethoven, Mozart and Schubert for Violin and Piano in the past three season, 2019-2020 season of concerts will include Brahms Complete Sonatas for Violin and Piano and Faure Sonatas for Violin and Piano in multiple venues; chamber recitals as the violinist of Caladium Piano Trio; violin soloist of the Vivaldi/Piazzola Four Seasons with the Rapides Symphony Orchestra; violinist with principal players of major orchestras for the Concert of Solidarity for the Rohingya Refugees at Carnegie Hall; solo recitals and masterclasses at University of Houston, University of Southern Mississippi, University of Oklahoma and Northern Illinois University; and series of concerts and masterclasses in mainland China and Taiwan.
He has presented recitals at universities across the United States and China. Most recently, he shared stage with Shanghai String Quartet and violinist Charles Castleman; performed solo recitals and gave master classes at Arizona State University, Florida State University, Longy School of Music, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, University of Houston, University of Las Vegas, University of North Texas, and University Alberta, Edmonton, Canada.
As an orchestral player, Mr. He has performed with the Shanghai Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic and New World Symphony. He is a regular addition to the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
Summer festival appearances have taken Mr. He to venues such as the Music Academy of the West, the Tanglewood Music Center and the Aspen Music Festival. Lin He has been a laureate of the Padesta Solo Competition and the ASTA competition.
Mr. He is now serving as the Associate Professor of Violin at the Louisiana State University School of Music and the Associate Concertmaster of the Baton Rouge Symphony. During the summer, he teaches at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, InterHarmony International Summer Music Festival, Montecito International Music Festival and BayView Music Festival.
Born in Shanghai, China, Mr. He began his musical training at the age of five. Mr. He received his doctorate from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied under the tutelage of Zvi Zeitlin. Other major influences include Steven Staryk, Sylvia Rosenberg, Kyung Sun Lee and Paul Kantor.
His CD release from Centaur Records of French Sonatas for Violin and Piano with pianist Gregory Sioles received favorable reviews.
