New requirement for PSU employees

Starting February 25, all PSU employees will be required to enroll in and use Duo Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to continue accessing PSU resources that use Single Sign-On (SSO).

What is Single Sign-On (SSO)?

The PSU Single Sign-On (SSO) system enables you to use your Odin account username and password to access University resources that require you to sign in through a web browser. Examples include: Gmail, Banweb, D2L, and DataMASTER.

What is two-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second layer of security to online accounts. In addition to entering your username and password, you are asked to respond to a push, text message, or call on your mobile device or landline. This prevents anyone but you from signing in to your account, even if they know your password.

  • Duo 2FA provides the option to remember your web browser on trusted devices for 30 days, so you’ll only need to authenticate once per month on each device.

Benefits you’ll receive from two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication has been proven effective at minimizing the risk of your accounts being compromised and used maliciously. This ensures that sensitive University and student data is protected, and helps keep the whole campus community Safer Together.

In addition to security benefits, after you enroll in Duo 2FA and add protection for SSO, your Odin account password will expire much less frequently (every two years rather than every six months).

How you can start using Duo two-factor authentication

If you’re ready to sign up now:

If you have already signed up for Duo 2FA, but did not add protections to SSO:

  • On February 25 protection will automatically be applied, and you will be prompted to authenticate with Duo prior to accessing any PSU resource that uses SSO.

If you haven’t signed up for Duo 2FA by February 25:

  • You’ll be prompted to enroll in Duo the next time you attempt to access PSU resources that use SSO. You will not be able to sign in until you complete Duo enrollment.
