Eugene Enneking Fellowship
The Eugene Enneking Doctoral Fellowship is awarded to outstanding graduate students seeking a Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences at Portland State University. The fellowship is part of a gift from alumnus and entrepreneur Fariborz Maseeh to develop an outstanding computational mathematics and statistics program at Portland State University and to promote partnerships for research and innovation.
This year’s two Enneking Fellowship recipients are:
F.S. Cater Prize
The F.S. Cater Prize in Mathematical Sciences is awarded annually for outstanding academic achievements to students majoring in Mathematical Sciences. One such prize goes to an MA/MS in Mathematics student and one is awarded to an MS in Statistics student. To be considered for the prize, students must be nominated by at least two faculty members. The F.S. Cater Prize was established in 2004 by the generous gift from Dr. F.S. Cater, PSU Professor Emeritus of Mathematical Sciences. Dr. Cater joined the department in 1965 and retired as full professor in 1992.
This year, two prizes of $3,000 each are being awarded to:

Daniel Eynis (Statistics)
The Maghsoodlou Award was established by a generous gift from Dr. Naghmeh Daneshi. The award will support graduate students in the MS in Statistics with expenses other than tuition. To be considered for the prize, students must be nominated by at least two faculty members
This year, one prize of $ 2,000 is awarded to:
Marjorie Enneking Math Education Endowed Scholarship
The Marjorie Enneking Math Education Endowed Scholarship is a scholarship established in memory of Professor Emeritus of mathematics Marjorie Enneking. The award is given to a graduate student in the field of Mathematics Education. Preference is given to a student who has worked as a teacher and is returning to school and/or has demonstrated excellence in student teaching.
This year, one scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to:
GTA Outstanding Teaching Award
To recognize the extraordinary efforts of our graduate teaching assistants, the department is pleased to offer the GTA Outstanding Teaching Award. The recipients of this award, listed below, have demonstrated excellence in the classroom by utilizing and refining innovative strategies to create a student-centered environment that supports student inquiry and recognizes diversity. Recipients have demonstrated a commitment to teaching and to continually honing their craft as well as the interpersonal attributes to support and inspire students. Their tremendous contributions are appreciated by both students and faculty alike.
