The 40 credit TESL Certificate program is designed to enable ESL/EFL teachers to meet the changing needs of students, schools, and employers in classrooms throughout the world. Unlike shorter and less comprehensive TESL training programs, the TESL Certificate offered through PSU's Department of Applied Linguistics provides a substantial foundation in both practical and theoretical knowledge of English Language teaching and learning.
The TESL Certificate provides students:
- second language acquisition theory.
- pedagogical skills.
- a strong foundation in linguistics coursework.
- 70-hour practice component of teaching, tutoring, and observation.
This training will enable graduates to teach ESL/EFL to adults and/or children in a wide variety of settings.
Students may enroll in the program as undergraduates or as post-baccalaurate students. Immediately upon making the decision to enroll, students should make an appointment to discuss their program and professional goals with the faculty adviser.
Financial aid is distributed by the Financial Aid Office.
