Prospective Students

Applied Linguistics at Portland State University

At PSU, you'll take courses that give you a broad overview of language structure, language use, and linguistic analysis. You will be prepared for teaching English as a second language or for graduate work in any area of applied linguistics. A degree in Applied Linguistics can also prepare you for graduate study to get a K-12 teaching license, study in Speech-Language Pathology, graduate work in law school, or any job that requires solid analysis and writing skills.

Because PSU is located in the city of Portland where an abundance of Oregon's second language children and adults live, there are many opportunities here for pre-service teachers to gain practical teaching experience and to find employment.  For more information about research opportunities, see Research & Projects.
