Education: Bachelor of Arts in Modern Foreign Languages with a concentration in Spanish & Italian (2010) and Master of Education in College Student Personnel Administration (2013) from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Experience: Candace Avalos has been the coordinating student government and Greek life activities since finishing her higher education master's program in Virginia and moving to Portland in the summer of 2013. Before entering the student affairs profession, she began her career in K-12 education as a Spanish and English as a Second Language high school teacher. She has over 12 years of experience in student government with varying roles such as historian, class vice president and president, student body vice president and president, advisor, and mentor and is currently the president of the JMU Student Government Alumni Chapter. As a proud alumna of the Epsilon Nu chapter of Delta Gamma, she continued to be involved post graduation as advisor to EN's House Corporation. Following her move to Portland, she has remain involved via the Portland Suburban Alumnae Chapter, as well as currently advising the Beta Pi chapter at Willamette University. Her knowledge in student affairs has been acquired via experiences in student activities, housing, college health, sexual assault prevention, multicultural affairs, conduct, substance education, and restorative justice. Her passions include but are not limited to: education policy reform, access to higher education for undocumented students, food insecurity and homelessness, student loan debt reform, multiracial identity development, and the intersection of cognitive development and power, privilege, and oppression.
