The Portland Business Alliance today announces a new Chairman's Scholarship Fund at Portland State University's School of Business Administration. The Portland Business Alliance board of directors presented outgoing chair, Charles Wilhoite, a check for $17,000 to create the new scholarship.  An Alliance scholarship fund was one of Wilhoite's goals during his term as chair, and this marks the first year of this tradition. The funds will go to Portland State University's Foundation and be distributed to students in business-related fields.

"I am so thankful to the board for their efforts on this initiative and I'm very pleased to present this scholarship to PSU," said Wilhoite. "These funds will help support tomorrow's business leaders today.  It is our goal that this fund continues to be a priority and hopefully a Chairman's Scholarship recipient will become an Alliance board member will contribute to this fund 20 years from now."

"Scholarships do more than provide essential financial support for students," said School of Business Administration Dean Scott Dawson. "Scholarships like the Portland Business Alliance's new Chairman's Scholarship connect students to business leaders in our community as well as tell their stories and illustrate their commitment to the next generation."

The scholarships are funded by personal contributions made by Alliance board members, company donations from Alliance board member companies and $2500 from the Alliance. The Alliance's plan is to renew this fund each year in order to sustain the Chairman's Scholarship Fund.
