PORTLAND, Ore. -- About 90 employers are at Portland State University Tuesday -- recruiting new workers at the university's Fall Career and Internship Fair.

This fair has "the biggest turnout of employers since the economic boom of the early 2000s," according to PSU. "[It's] a sign that the job market is coming back.

About 80 employers came to the 2011 fall fair.

“[I]t shows employers are hiring earlier and are more confident in their job projections,” said PSU Career Services Associate Director Greg Flores in a prepared statement.

Around noon, PSU communication coordinator Suzanne Pardington called to report "great attendance." She said LinkedIn, an online network for professionals, is offering free social-media profile photos for those at Tuesday's fair.

Recruiters this year include Skanska, Cambia Health Solutions, Intel and Boeing. About half of the job openings are in engineering and technology; private, public and non-profit employers are hiring for a variety of majors.

The Fall Career and Internship Fair runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Tuesday, Oct. 30. It's being held in PSU's Smith Memorial Student Union third-floor ballroom, 1825 SW Broadway in Portland.

Located in Portland, PSU has about 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
