Scholarship of Teaching Institute
Thursday, December 13, 2018 - 9:00am to Thursday, December 13, 2018 - 3:00pm

The Office of Academic Innovation is sponsoring an Institute on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for two days in December where you can learn the elements needed to design a SOTL project in your classroom. The purpose of this institute is to work with faculty to identify a teaching problem or curiosity and develop a SOTL study for implementation in winter or spring classes. Over the Institute we will disentangle the challenges of conducting research in your classroom and show you how to implement a classroom research project.

The Institute will cover basic issues like writing an IRB for a SOTL project, using a citation management system to streamline access to journals in our library’s database, and analyzing models for doing SOTL both in general education journals like College Teaching as well as in discipline-specific journals like Sociology Education or Journal of Engineering Education.  Ultimately we expect everyone will leave the Institute with a study in mind along with an IRB proposal and the instruments you will use to study your own teaching.

Free and open to all PSU faculty.
