The total debt from student loans across the United States now exceeds credit card and consumer debt. What can students, colleges and policy makers do to make college more affordable and reduce spiraling debt?

Portland State University and KGW-TV invite you to participate in a statewide town hall discussion of rising college costs and student debt. Join education leaders, students, legislators, lenders and others in developing an action plan to reduce college costs.

The interactive event features keynote addresses by Mark Kantrowitz, founder of consumer websites FinAid and FastWeb and a national expert on college affordability, and Rohit Chopra, the national Ombudsman for Student Loans at the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Light breakfast at 8 a.m.; program begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 12:15 p.m. A free “Paying for College” workshop hosted by financial aid experts from Portland State, Oregon State and the University of Oregon follows from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
