Commencement 2018 video and photos

Portland State graduated an estimated record 6,315 students on Sunday, June 17 at Moda Center in Portland. They came from 48 states – as well as Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico – as well as 65 nations.

Twenty-nine percent were students of color, reflecting the university’s growing diversity. The oldest bachelor’s degree recipient was 76; the youngest was 18.

It was the first commencement ceremonies for Rahmat Shoureshi, PSU’s ninth president, since he took office last summer.

“I have spent the last year learning about what makes PSU special,” said Shoureshi. “You know what I learned? It is our students who make PSU special. You are risk-takers. You worked one, two, sometimes three jobs to pay your way through college. Some of you came to PSU with significant life experiences, and you boldly sought out new skills, new careers, and new possibilities.”
