Additional Funding Sources

Below are funding opportunities for PSU students interested in studying, carrying out research, or working in China. Many of these opportunities can be pursued in parallel to our Summer Internship program for PSU Master of Urban and Regional Planning graduate students. Click on the funding program's title to visit each program's website for more information. Programs will continue to be added to the list below, so please check back regularly.

Peter & Christine Nickerson Scholarship for Asian Studies

  • Students should be in a field of study related to China
  • Undergraduate or Graduate students are encouraged to apply
  • Demonstrated financial need is preferred
  • Students should be in good academic standing at PSU
  • Students who have been to China are not eligible to apply
  • U.S. Citizens only 

The application deadline is April 1.  Students can apply online.  The scholarship will likely range between $2500 - $5000.  Students should contact Alyse Collins (ayc@pdx.edu) directly if you are interested in.  Students can browse program options here.

Boren Fellowship (Graduate Students)

Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 to U.S. graduate students to add an important international and language component to their graduate education throu gh specialization in area study, language study, or increased language proficiency. Boren Fellowships support study and research in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests, including Africa, Asia, Centra l & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.

Boren Scholarships (Undergraduates)

Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.
