About Summer Internship
The China summer internship program is specifically for MURP students (those enrolled in the Master of Urban and Regional Planning program) who are seeking an internship overseas, and are open to new experiences and adventure. 2016 is the eighth year of this internship program. The first-hand experience and knowledge gained through this internship in China provide excellent opportunities to extend your urban planning curriculum outside of the classroom. The opportunity to work in Chinese megacities as planners dealing with unprecedented rates of growth and development is a highly unique opportunity that would not be available on the same scale in the United States.
All our past interns have highly valued their experiences in China. Students considering the internship program are advised to read reports written by past interns, the Transplanet blog maintained by past summers' interns and attend the China Seminar. China programs will organize information sessions about China's urbanization process to help prepare intern's working in China. Frequently asked questions about the internship program is here.
As part of this opportunity through the PSU-China Innovations in Urbanization program, PSU Interns are placed in planning institutes throughout China to work on projects alongside Chinese planners. Host institutions offer a stipend towards a variety of in-country living expenses, including lodging, food and work-related travel, China program will cover the visa application cost, while students are required to arrange travel to and from China. Past interns have received significant support through travel grants to cover these expenses.
