2012-2013 China Seminar Series

Ningbo Meishan Island Development Research - Shihui Liu

Event Date and Location

Thursday, February 28, 12:00-1:30pm - Urban Center Room 220

With the growth in international container ship sizes over the last few decades, the deep-water coastline around an untouched island in the Yangtze River Delta region has become increasingly valuable. Shanghai built the first Bonded Port Zone in China, and now seeks to establish another in the Yangtze Delta Region. Join us for a second presentation by China Academy of Urban Planning & Design Senior Planner and PSU Visiting Scholar Shihui Liu, as he discusses whether a second port is necessary, and if so, what it should be. He will review development research conducted for Meishan Island which attempted to study this issue from many different perspectives.

Word of the Day

Each week our visiting scholars and Chinese speaking staff will present one planning-related word in English and Chinese for attendees. This week we learned three words. (Note: Numbers below refer to the four tones of the Chinese spoken language.)
