Here is what's happening at LSAMP at Portland State.

LSAMP Scholar, Faduma Ali, was one of ten students recently selected from a field of 472, to participate in a summer research experience at the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, GA.

LSAMP Scholar and McNair Scholar, Allie Simpson, was recently selected to participate in a Summer Undergraduate Research Internship (SULI) in the Marine Department of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Sequim, WA.

LSAMP Scholar, Amina Ali, was recently selected for an internship at the VirtuOHSU Surgical Simulation Lab at the Oregon Health Science University under the leadership of Dr. Donn H. Spight.

Two LSAMP engineering students, Adilene Amaro-Zurita and Andres Herrejon, earned appointments to the Undergraduate Research and Mentoring Program (URMP).  Amaro-Zurita works in the Intelligent Transportation Lab in the Maseeh College of Engineering under Dr. Miguel Figliozzi and Herrejon works in the

Edgar Verdin was named to the New Faces of Civil Engineering: College Edition.  

Several LSAMP Scholars in engineering are serving as officers in student chapters of professional organizations.  Adilene Amaro-Zurrita, Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers; Mondell Wells, National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE); Jeannette Newman, American Indian Science Engineering Society (AISES); Engineering Without Borders (EWB), Edgar Verdin.  

Eight LSAMP Scholars participated in a qualitative research study focused on the LSAMP Program.  Author, Aisha Holland, defended her dissertation: Fostering Hope and Closing the Academic Gap: An Examination of College Retention for African-American, Native-American and Latino Students who participate in the Louis Stokes Alliance Minority Participation Program while enrolled in a Predominately White Institution.
