Dr. Sobomehin was born in and spent the first 19 years of his life in Nigeria, then moved to the United States to complete his education. After his move to the U.S. he became aware of the reality of American racism and the oppression of Black Americans. He was determined to be an integral part of the struggle of Black Americans to achieve freedom and opportunity. While becoming active in the Civil Rights movement, and after already earning his degree in engineering, he decided to start his education afresh and earned a B.A. in Political Science, an M.A. in Sociology and Ethnic Studies, and a Ph.D. in Political Science/Social Psychology.
